News from Ms. Trena:

Dear REMS Families,

February represents Kindness.  Please help us celebrate National Kindness Week Feb. 9-15th and World Kindness Day on Feb. 17th.  Please help us celebrate by making kindness the norm both at home and within our school community.

This next week, we’re celebrating all the random acts of kindness that make our school a caring and joyful place. Whether it’s sharing a smile, helping a friend, cleaning up our community, or simply offering a compliment to a REMS staff member on our Kindness board in the lobby, every kind act makes a difference!

We encourage you to explore the idea of kindness with your child as well! Some ideas might include having a dinner conversation on acts of kindness students participated in during their day, challenging students to do something kind within their day, or creating a “Kindness Jar” at home to capture those acts of kindness.  Each day, write down one kind act you or your child performed, and share it during family time. This small daily habit can grow into a big reservoir of positivity.

As a community, consider volunteering or performing a community service project together. It’s a great way to bond and show your children the importance of giving back. Get some of your REMS Family volunteer hours clocked this month by giving time to our classrooms or by getting involved in the REMS Auction planning.
Let’s continue to work together to build a school community where kindness is at the heart of all we do. Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to creating an environment where every act, no matter how small, makes a big difference. We Are Crew!

Wishing you a week filled with smiles and kind hearts!

News from Our Crews:

REMS Soup Drive:
We are collecting canned soups and boxed soup mixes that will be donated to a local food bank on February 21st. BRING IN SOUPS UNTL FEB 21. Let's see which Crew can collect the most! This soup drive is being held in connection to the "Empty Bowls" project that 6th grade has been working on to help spread awareness about food insecurities in our community.

Ms. Sami- 4th Grade:
Ms. Sami's 4th grade crew worked with RSS students to make Valentine's Day cards for people affected by the California fires.

1st Grade- Cultural Celebration:
1st graders finished their culture expedition and created a postcard on the country the focused on. Thank you to all our families who came to listen to them as they shared about the countries they researched!

3rd Grade- Expedition:
Earlier in the week, a guest speaker came to talk to third grade about the impacts of drought and beetles on the forest. They learned about wildfire mitigation and fire safety.
Later in the week, third graders went on expedition fieldwork to experience the work of forestry. Students worked alongside local foresters to learn about tree health, how to inventory a tree, and next steps for wildfire mitigation. Students measured the diameter of the tree and took a tree core sample with an increment borer. How exciting to put their learning in action!

Lost & Found:
Do any of these items look familiar? The lost and found is overflowing! Please come inside and check to see if any of these coats, jackets, mittens, lunchboxes, hats, or water bottles belong to your child. Unclaimed items will be donated by Friday, March 7th.

News from Parent Crew:

Great Divide Spirit Nights
Mark your calendars for February 17th, 18th, and 19th and get ready for a fun-filled, family-friendly fundraiser supporting Renaissance! The best part? February 17th is a no-school day, so it’s the perfect time to come out, relax, and enjoy some time together while giving back to our amazing school community.

Here’s how it works:
When: February 17–19, all day!
Where: Great Divide Brewery
What: 10% of sales from Renaissance families will be donated back to the school!

To make sure your purchase counts toward the fundraiser, simply mention Renaissance to your server, and they’ll flag your ticket to go toward the proceeds. Every meal, drink, or snack helps make a difference!

Gift Card Bonanza
That random gift card that's sitting unused in your junk drawer, at the bottom of your purse, in your car's center console, etc? It might be partially used, or from a business that isn't your favorite, or maybe you just forgot about it and it won't be missed. Participate in our school's Gift Card Bonanza, and donate it towards the school's auction! Your donation might be someone's treasure! We're building a supply of gift cards, to be used in the auction in a fun and rewarding way! Drop your cards off at the front office. Thank you!
