News from Our Crews:
Ms. Hillary- D4/5
Last weekend, Discovery 4/5 crew had an opportunity to support our local community by helping restore the creek ecosystem. We harvested parts of willow bushes that we then replanted in hopes of restoring the willows along the creek. This was an important task for helping the threatened Preble's Meadow Jumping Mouse and its habitat. We recently learned all about this threatened species in our expedition. These students went above and beyond in showcasing the values of crew through service, perseverance, passion, and stewardship!
Students took on Earth Day starting with a whole crew challenge to pick up trash. On Earth Day, students participated in activities such as repainting the tunnel, touching up the buddy bench, cleaning the swings (bird poop has been removed!), and resetting the rock maze so that it is both accessible to use and weeded down! Students also have added two new lidded trash cans to encourage students to throw items away on the OLE instead of littering! Thank you to PCF for partnering to help make this giant project happen and thank you to Ms. Madison (Kinder), Ms. Laura (D6), and Mr. Justin for adding extra hands to pull this off so quickly!
Ms. Lauren and Mr. Steve- 3rd and 6th Grade
Third and Sixth Graders practicing for upcoming Showcase Presentations!
Ms. Tori & Ms. Jena- 5th Grade
Fifth graders have launched into their Earth and space science expedition, Beyond Earth: Exploring Space with Heart and Mind. They’re diving into big questions about how Earth’s rotation and orbit create patterns like day and night and the seasons. Through hands-on lessons students are making observations about the moon, stars, and human impact on space exploration. Aligned with key science standards, this journey encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and care for our planet and beyond.
Ms. Annie & Ms. Sami- 4th Grade
Fourth graders planted their seeds, seedlings and plants in our school garden this week. In other exciting news, they have fixed our compost problem! Through a grant, Commercial Compost is going to pick up all our school food waste once a week starting this week. Last week, they did a waste audit and these are the results:
Library was out of this world this week! All crews enjoyed a trip through space and time in our StarLab. We learned about night and day, watched the moon on it's journey through the phases of the moon, learned to identify some constellations and asterisms, and listened to the myths and legends behind them. A stellar time was had by all.
The long-awaited spring session of the REMS Readers Book Club is finally here!
