5th Grade on Voyage last week.

News from Ms. Trena:

Dear Renaissance Families,

Ware so excited to kick-off Renaissance Adventure Day (RAD) week with Booster-thon!  The students were incredibly excited to start signing up for the Fun Run after The Beat and to get sponsors to donate to our school.  As a family, you can access the registration on  MyBooster.com.  Our school goal is to raise $50,000 for a new shade structure for the Outdoor Learning Environment, continue funding our Expeditionary Learning and Adventure Education programs, as well as installing some durable soccer goals for our turf field.  We are looking forward to RAD next Friday, where students will showcase our core values through an adventure obstacle course, the Fun Run, a community service project and a read-a-thon!  Your child's teacher will be sending out additional communication throughout the week leading up to RAD.  We sincerely appreciate all of your efforts as a family to raise essential funds for our crew!

A Note from the Main Office:
When signing in students tardy in the morning and out for appointments throughout the day, please come into the Main Office and check out your child on the iPad.  Please do not send your child into the building on their own. We ask that if you plan to sign your child out early for the day, you do so fifteen minutes before the end of the school day. Thank you!

News from Our Crews:

3rd Grade Field Work:
This week, our third grade crews visited the Plains Conservation Center. This fieldwork enabled students to deepen their understanding and provide an opportunity to experience what life would have been like in 1887 as a homesteader and Cheyenne Native American.

1st Grade Field Work:
Crews enjoyed the zoo's program, Secret Science Days. During our unit on plants and animals we’ve learned about how animal parts help the animal to survive. We’ve also learned that offspring look similar to, but not exactly alike their grown-ups. We put this learning to action during our fieldwork and identified different animal parts that help specific animals survive. We didn’t get to see too many animal babies but most of the groups saw at least one.

Ms. Cari's Crew- Kindergarten:
Our kindergartners had the opportunity to participate in Mr. Doug’s bike program this week. This was the first of a series of rides that will encourage all our kids to learn how to ride bikes.

Ms. Erin- Library:
Last week we celebrated our first ever REMS Readers Book Club! Thank you to all who participated and helped to make this event a success. We dove into The Wild Robot by Peter Brown by exploring how Roz demonstrated our core values, discussed the good and the bad that could come from robots, and experimented with Ozobot coding robots. We also got to design our own edible robot treat with marshmallows and pretzels. REMS is wild about reading!

From the Café:
Did you know that REMS offers FREE breakfast for students? Students can enjoy a free breakfast every day from 8:25-8:35 in the Café before school starts.

Mr. Doug- PE:
Here is the link to the climbing schedule for November. If you have been trained at Renaissance please sign up to support our crews. If not there is still plenty of time to get you trained. Thank you.

Training:

If you would like to learn to belay at Renaissance please use the presentation linked below and then sign up for the in person portion. If you have been trained by me before you may use the presentation to review and then demonstrate your skills when we begin to climb in our gym.

Below is the link for the presentation that you may complete on your own time at home. Once you have completed the training presentation please sign up for the in person portion to complete the training in our gym, or reach out to Mr. Doug at doug.baker@dcsdk12.org to schedule the in person portion of your training.

The presentation must be completed before you come to the in person portion of the training in the gym. The time in the gym will be specifically utilized to answer questions and practice the skills necessary to facilitate climbing in our gym.
