NEW! A Note from Ms. Trena:

Important Dates:

10/9/23-10/20/23: Fall Break

Dear REMS Families,

As we close out the first nine weeks of school, we have so many things to celebrate! Thank YOU for over 3,000 hours devoted to volunteering at our school and within the community.
  • We had seven extremely successful overnight voyages and three day hikes this Fall where our students pushed their growth zones and interacted in nature.
  • We celebrated CREW with Volunteer Crew Camp, Carnival, Movie Night, Listening Conferences, The Beat, our Talent Show, Coffee with the Principal and most recently Renaissance Adventure Day!
  • Our teachers have engaged in over 40 hours of professional development to support students in their classrooms.
  • Our School Accountability Committee and Parent Crew Foundation have awarded $8,500 of your dollars to teacher grants that directly impact student learning.
We also hit our goal of raising over $45,000 this year for RAD!!!! Thank you!

I am so humbled by our community of students, staff, and families who show up every day to support our Crew Values of passion, stewardship, service, courage, integrity and perseverance.  Thank you for your efforts!!

Bond Mill Levy Override News:
In addition, several of you have reached out to me asking what our school community would face if the Bond/Mill Levy (5A/5B) does not pass in the November election.  I reached out to our Superintendent, Erin Kane, for her perspective.

If the Bond/Mill Levy Override does not pass, our district will experience:
1 - Our inability to hire teachers may cause us to combine classrooms leading to larger class sizes.
2 - Our inability to compete with other districts will mean that we will lose experienced teachers and classified staff.  With a limited applicant pool we cannot necessarily hire "the best" to replace them - which could ultimately result in the erosion of our state and district scores.
3- We will continue to bus kids in new communities to overflow schools, in the long-run this will result in families living near an overflow school being boundried to a school that is not the one near them.
4 - We would have to raise additional funding to support Adventure Education, Expeditionary Learning, and Social Emotional programs
5- By not passing the Bond/Mill Levy, property values will drop because our school district will not be a destination district.

Please consider educating yourselves on what passing a Bond/Mill Levy Override will bring to our community in Funding Their Future.

Halloween Communications
We will be celebrating as a whole school on Tuesday, October 31st at 9:30am with an outdoor parade followed by individual classroom celebrations.  We are happy to invite parents to the outdoor parade. Please review our guidelines for the day.

Thanksgiving Meal- Changes
The Cafe will still offer a special Thanksgiving lunch for all students and DCSD staff, but are unable to accommodate guests and parents this school year. The reason that Nutrition Services made this difficult decision was due to the large volume of meals our kitchens are experiencing this school year with the free lunch initiative for students and staff.  The Thanksgiving lunch will be free for students and staff on this day.  We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

Please enjoy your Fall Break!  We will see everyone on Monday, October 23rd when school begins again.

With kind regards,

Trena L. Hand

Proud Principal
